To Nessing and back… A quick update

Nepal notes may 18
In Thamel, Nepal. I just ordered a calzone in a Nepali pizzeria, listening to Jamiroquai. This trip has already been very interesting.

May 19
It is 11:49 am and jeep #2 has gotten stuck.

7:23 pm we have finally reached the passport checkpoint. Still over an hour to go. The sun has set. It hasn’t rained out here for a long while and it is now raining. Lightning and thunder as well. Because of the breakdown we won’t be reaching our planned destination. The rain has started to come down in buckets and as always there are landslide dangers. So far this trip has been the most trying of them all. It seems as though just as we attempted to get into Nepal the opposition started. The rain is pouring down now. We will continue on to Syafru Besi and sleep at hotel sky as usual.

We have been looking for ways to minister as we have been stuck here and there.

God is good all the time.

We hiked into nessing today. Stomach held the whole way until we got into village. Then stomach was not happy the rest of the night. Finally gave in and started a cipro cycle. That will kill anything bad in there.

As we entered the village we were greeted by familiar faces -nimayanti, simja, mingmar, susila, doud and others.

Despite many “festivals” as pastor Shem calls the Maoist strikes, we have made it from Gatlang village to Kathmandu in just under 11 hours. It has been a very intense trip. Full updates to follow.

11 hours to Gatlang

19 05 2010

It’s 6:15 AM on Wednesday and we are packing the Jeeps for our 11 hour drive to Gatlang. Yesterday was a great day of ministry at the riverbed, seeing old friends and meeting new ones. Continue to pray against sickness, car or otherwise. The team is anxious to get to Gatlang as we have never done a clinic there. Everything is set to go, our spirits are high and the Lord is working. So much more to say, no time to say it.

18 05 2010

We have been traveling pretty non stop since Saturday at 9:30. 12:40 for some. The flights to Japan were good, the team reconviened at Narita and we all flew to Bangkok together, slept fast at “The Great Residence” hotel near the airport, got up, ate, devos, back to the airport where we obviously were due for some enemy opposition. There was some supposed problem with the weight of our bags, but it got sorted out. Our flight to Kathmandu was as nice as ever on Thai airlines. And we were greeted with the ever friendly and loving face of Pastor Shem.

Though there are still some “festivals” as Pastor Shem calls them (Maoist demonstrations) we arrived safely at the Goshen Guest House.  We had a great time catching up and talking with Shem, Sumi (Shem’s wife) and Hari, one of the boys from the Dhakbari church. Sumi made a great Dhal Baat dinner and we sat and talked story till the wee hour of about 8PM, we were exhausted!

Pray for the team, today we will be going to the riverbed which are the slums, to do mobil clinics and minister to people. Tonight we will be eating dinner at Pastor Shem’s house.

Keep us in your prayers for safe travels and that God would do miracles. Our internet connection is really slow and spotty. We will upload more pics later.
